About the MWS
Is the Shelter for women and children?
This Shelter is for women only, over the age of 18, who do not need accommodation for their children.
Where is the Shelter?
We do not disclose the location, other than that it is in the Manly area.
How many women stay in the Shelter?
We can provide accommodation for up to 10 women at a time.
How long can someone stay?
The maximum stay is 3 months, during which time a professional case worker will assist the woman with getting back on her feet and aiming to achieve lasting change for the better.
Can I donate clothes for women and children?
While we would LOVE to have a large stock, unfortunately we simply do not have the storage space. The women who stay with us make use of existing charities, such as St Vincent’s, the Salvation Army etc, which are set up to handle clothing. Our kind friends at St Vincent de Paul at Brookvale provide clothes to women from our Shelter for free.
Can I donate food and household items, such as toiletries?
Yes please, but please get in touch before you do as storage space is limited. We can let you know what is needed most at a particular time so you can tailor your donation. If you’re interested in doing a drive or large collection, please let us know.
Can I donate fresh food?
We are lucky that our friends at OzHarvest makes weekly deliveries of fresh fruit and vegetables, when they can.
Can I donate furniture?
Unfortunately, we do not have the storage space. There are a few charities that will accept furniture, and we will make use of those when we have a need.
Can I help out at MWS?
Occasionally, we will have openings for volunteers to help us with various tasks, events or projects. To participate, you must attend training and undergo a background check. Please contact us for more details. Please contact us for more details.
